Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service has assured taxpayers’ of a robust administrative and technology system that will address multiple taxation and boost taxpayers’ confidence.
The Executive Chairman of AKIRS, Mr Okon Okon stated this during a courtesy visit paid to the Board by delegates from Akwa Ibom Hotel Proprietors’ Association and Hotels and Tourism Board on Wednesday 25th April, 2018.
According to Mr Okon, a State Joint Committee has been set to harmonize tax administration and foster collaboration among tax authorities in the state.
He stated that the synergy will curb duplication of taxes collected as areas of conflict in terms of geographical delineation will be addressed. Modern taxation technology and full automation of tax processes will be deployed to ease tax administration process and improve the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state.
He however called on taxpayers’ to seize the amnesty window of the Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS) to declare their income and avoid being prosecuted after the expiration of the program on 30th June, 2018.
Mr Okon reiterated that AKIRS is not positioned to threaten businesses but poised to create an enabling system by operating within the armbit of revenue laws to promote voluntary compliance.
